The Carrefour group seeks to control their energy consumption to be more cost efficient and improve the performance of its global assets. The Group would also like to deploy an asset management strategy that allows to prioritise its investments considering related energy profits. We took 3 levels of intervention into account for this project: the national, the regional and the local levels with each shop. advizeo’s solutions were deployed on each of these three levels with regular contact with Carrefour. In 2018, 102 hypermarkets were entrusted to advizeo, and the portfolio has increased to over 550 buildings since 2020, multiplying the number of assets by 5.

Connected sensors deployment

The 102 Carrefour superstores were equipped in 2 months, i.e.1,760 sensors deployed across all the sites: 1,633 electrical sensors, 68 gas sensors, and 60 temperature sensors. The Energy Managers were able to monitor the trends in energy usage of each hypermarket (cold storage for food, HVAC, lighting, laboratory) in real-time. The process then continued on the 300+ new buildings. In addition to deploying the sensors and providing the savee energy monitoring platform, the Energy Managers assist maintainers in solving their problems with the help of data processing and renowned technical expertise.

Tracking and analysis

With the sensors and data from the centralised technical management systems, Carrefour tracks around 12,000 pieces of data on an hourly basis (every 10 minutes in some cases). Monitoring and priorities for action are done thanks to the use of automated indicators and alerts. This mass data processing gives the technical agents greater responsiveness. Data analysis also allows us to precisely measure the real impact of these actions and the work that has been done.

Recommendations and execution

Our Energy Managers were able to detect 5,000 ways to improve (over 70% of which have been implemented) over the last 4 years thanks to the analysis of data and on-the-ground technical visits.

The most significant energy consumptions observed in the shop came from the cold food storage and HVAC. Consequently, most of the actions were related to these energy expenditures. 50% of the actions were carried out on cold storage, 30% on HVAC, and 20% on installing hourly programmes.

Fifteen advizeo Energy Managers make sure that the mission within Carrefour goes smoothly. They follow and help Carrefour’s different stakeholders, from assistance with field operations to supporting the asset managers with strategic planning, most notably in terms of investment.

The daily operation of a hypermarket is inherently energy-intensive: customer traffic that brings in large amounts of fresh air, refrigeration for food preservation, continuous operation of bread ovens, etc. The significant benefit of advizeo lies in optimizing schedules to achieve savings and better control energy consumption.

Other case studies

BURGER KING

As part of its commitment to environmental responsibilities, BURGER KING aims to optimize the energy performance of its restaurants. BURGER KING has chosen advizeo to assist in the collection and analysis of energy consumption data.

CARREFOUR

Carrefour sought to streamline its costs by managing its energy consumption effectively. In 2018, our Energy Managers installed IoT monitoring hardware over 102 supermarkets and they achieve a 6% reduction in energy costs (i.e. several million euros) in two years. Satisfied with the outcome, Carrefour decided to entrust advizeo with all their assets in France (550 buildings).

DOMUSVI

Since 2017, the DomusVi Group has invested in the energy performance of its building stock all across France with advizeo. Thanks to the Energy Management System (EMS) savee and connected sensors (IoT), maintenance managers and facility directors are able to monitor in real-time all energy flows of their nursing homes. The team of Energy Managers ensure a reduction in energy consumption by offering concrete solutions and executing them.

GENERALI

advizeo has installed connected devices in Generali buildings to monitor energy consumption and propose an action plan to improve energy performance, ensuring savings.

ORANGE FRANCE

As a company committed to combating climate change, Orange has pledged to be Net Zero Carbon by 2040, focusing on energy efficiency and renewable energy.
